Wait around and it might come up on sale again. The first time I buckled one of the two main front closures, the buckle broke. The 8GB card that comes with the package allows you take full advantage of the RAW format, if you plan on doing heavy image editing and need super-high quality and high-res originals. I was able to pick it up for $479 ($499 after S&H) a few months back. The only draw back is the gadget back. Whether you're a professional looking for a good secondary camera that's still compatible with your EF lenses, an experienced point-and-shooter that wants to enter the world of Digital SLRs, or are completely new to the game, this is an excellent package deal.

Unlike the very basic XTi, however, the XS includes a number of features found only on higher end Canon cameras, such as Live View (gimmicky but useful at times) and the DIGIC III image processing board. It still stays securely shut, with two small side buckles and one left up front, but it's not as tight as it was before. The Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS (a.k.a. the little clips holding it closed popped off like they had been petrified or something. All of the items were great except the camera bag.

Only disappointment is the lenses from our old Canon 35mm do not fit, so I'll need to purchase new lenses. Still learning how to use the camera, but so far I love it. Takes good pictures.

really easy to use even before you read the instructions, i loooooove canon D-slr and looking forward to keep learning how to use the camera more. I recently bought this, i really liked the combo because you get a spare battery and a 8g memory card, the whole thing arrived on time but the bag i received is broken and the bag is also too big to only carry the camera and the extra battery. that i didnt like.The camera is great.
